"Cockpit audio: 'Persistent alert' sounded moments before UPS plane crash"
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the organization leading the investigation into the UPS airplane crash, has released initial findings obtained from the aircraft's "black box." This device consists of two components, including the cockpit voice recorder. According to the NTSB, over two hours of clear audio data have been extracted, capturing pilot conversations and background sounds. NTSB board member Todd Inman shared that the crew diligently followed their pre-flight procedures and the takeoff was smooth. Approximately 37 seconds after initiating takeoff thrust, a continuous "persistent bell" sound was recorded for 25 seconds until the end of the transmission. Inman noted this sound as a distinctive bell, not an alarm, indicating an ongoing investigation into the specific cause. The crew made efforts to control the aircraft as the left engine caught fire and separated from the airplane during takeoff, as visible in footage. Although the engine was detached, the pylon linking it to the wing remained intact. Inman stated the left engine remains a significant focus of investigation due to potential factors of concern. The NTSB does not intend to provide further statements to media in Louisville but will issue updates through press releases and social platforms, remaining in Louisville until all necessary evidence is collected.
