Co-owner of Blue Plate restaurant killed by driver attempting to pass on shoulder, authorities report
A tragedy occurred over the weekend when David Burley, co-owner of Blue Plate Restaurant Company, was fatally struck by a driver while riding a motorcycle. Alcohol and an illegal driving maneuver by the motorist are believed to have contributed to the collision. The Freehouse, one of the Blue Plate-owned restaurants, announced Burley's passing on social media. To mourn the loss, all Blue Plate locations in the Twin Cities were closed on Monday. The fatal crash took place on westbound Interstate 94 near Hudson, where the driver of an Infiniti G25 attempted to pass traffic by using the right shoulder, resulting in a collision with Burley's motorcycle. Tragically, Burley succumbed to his injuries at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. The driver of the car, a 33-year-old man, also sustained injuries but is expected to recover. Authorities have revealed that the driver had consumed alcohol before the crash and charges may be filed pending the ongoing investigation. Moreover, the driver was not wearing a seat belt. The Blue Plate restaurants impacted by this terrible event include The Freehouse, The Lowry, 3 Squares Restaurant, Longfellow Grill, Edina Grill, Groveland Tap, and Highland Grill, all situated in the Twin Cities area.
