Cincinnati public service worker remembered after fatal crash involving Metro bus

Jonathan "Jay" Young, a 46-year-old Cincinnati public service worker, is being remembered for his selflessness after he died in a crash involving a Metro bus and city trucks on the Norwood Lateral. Friends and family are mourning Young, describing him as a hero. "Jonathan died a hero, plain and simple," one friend said. The friend shared that Young "possessed a rare heart of gold and never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need" and added, "In his final moments, his only thought was for the safety of his coworkers, putting himself in harm's way to make sure they were okay before the bus struck." The crash occurred yesterday, and a 911 caller described the scene, saying, "Metro bus crashed into some construction workers and he's injured. I think he flew out of the car." Another city employee at the scene also called for help, explaining to a dispatcher, "We work for the city. We were doing traffic control." The caller added, "He (bus driver) couldn't have been paying attention. He wasn't paying attention and ran into the back of my truck and then he, he ran into the back of my truck that forced it to hit the truck in front of us which was a cone trailer and he tried to jump off but he couldn't." While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, those who knew Young are focusing on his life and legacy. His cousin said he was a "hard worker, kept a smile on his face... and loved his children dearly." Loved ones also shared that Young provided for his grandmother. Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval also expressed his condolences, noting Young's decades of service to the city. "I ask all Cincinnatians to hold him in our hearts," Pureval said.
