Chris Froome airlifted to hospital following 'serious' cycling accident
Four-time Tour de France champion Chris Froome was recently airlifted to a hospital after a significant training crash. According to a statement from Froome's official account, he sustained injuries including a lower back fracture, a collapsed lung, and five broken ribs, however, he did not suffer any head injuries. The 40-year-old British cyclist is currently in a stable condition and is scheduled for back surgery later today. Updates on Froome's progress after the operation will be provided. The crash, which did not involve any other cyclists or vehicles, occurred during a training ride on Wednesday, resulting in his transfer to a hospital in Toulon on the French Riviera via helicopter. Having raced with Israel Premier-Tech since 2021, the team expressed well wishes for Froome's recovery on social media. Froome, notably a winner of multiple prestigious cycling events, including the Tour de France, has faced challenges on the road to recovery following a severe crash in 2019 and subsequent injuries.
