(Above: Previous report aired on May 10, 2025, of the rollover solo-vehicle crash) SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A man died after his vehicle became airborne and struck a metal guardrail on eastbound State Route 94 in San Diego, California Highway Patrol stated in a news release Wednesday. The crash happened just before 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, near the interchange with northbound Interstate 15. For unknown reasons, a 23-year-old man driving a red Toyota on eastbound SR-94 left the roadway, became airborne and hit a metal guardrail on the westbound lanes, according to CHP. The car eventually landed on its roof and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities stated. A toxicology report is pending through the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office to determine whether alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the crash. Traffic was backed up on SR-94 for a few hours following the incident as CHP and the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department responded to the scene. At least two lanes of westbound SR-94 between I-15 and Interstate 805 were closed after the crash. All lanes reopened just before 9 p.m., according to Caltrans. The cause of death and events leading up to the crash are still under investigation. The driver's name is being withheld pending family notification by the medical examiner's office. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact CHP at (858) 293-6000.
