CHP cadet dies in Stockton Interstate 5 crash
A cadet from the California Highway Patrol tragically lost his life in a crash on Interstate 5 in Stockton. The incident occurred on the evening of October 19 when the driver, identified as Peter Steve Lopez Pelaez, collided with a stopped big rig due to traffic congestion near Benjamin Holt Drive. The vehicle became wedged beneath the larger truck, and unfortunately, Pelaez did not survive the crash. The CHP shared that there were no signs of attempted avoidance actions or skid marks from the vehicle. It was confirmed by CHP Stockton on Tuesday that Pelaez was part of the cadet program within the agency.
