Child safety tips following tragic accident in Shenandoah Valley

In Richmond, Virginia, the Virginia State Police are currently investigating a tragic incident where an 18-month-old child was struck and killed by a car in Augusta County. Kids and Car Safety is raising awareness of these preventable accidents. According to the Virginia Department of Health, numerous children in the state die each year from car crashes and other unintentional incidents. Director Amber Rollins highlighted the danger, with statistics showing that over 100 children are hit by vehicles in driveways or parking lots in the U.S. every week. She emphasized the importance of being cautious in blind spots that extend at least 50 feet, and noted that backup cameras in modern vehicles can provide assistance. To prevent such tragedies, she recommended the use of doorknob covers and door chimes at home to safeguard wandering children. Rollins urged parents to always be vigilant, as these incidents can happen to anyone, regardless of how careful they may be.
