Child injured in Illinois after-school camp car crash passes away, increasing death count to 5

The video above is an excerpt from a previous update confirming that the driver involved in the tragic crash was not believed to be intoxicated. The 8-year-old child who sustained injuries when a car crashed into a building hosting a popular after-school camp in Illinois during the spring has sadly passed away. Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon announced the death of Bradley Lund from Springfield on his office's Facebook page recently. The death toll from the accident on April 28 in Chatham has now risen to five, including Ainsley Johnson, Kathryn Corely, and Alma Buhnerkempe, all aged 7, from Chatham, as well as 18-year-old Rylee Britton from Springfield. State police reported that a vehicle veered off the road, plowed through a field, and collided with the building being used by the Youth Needing Other Things Outdoors camp, exiting through the other side. The 44-year-old driver was unharmed, and authorities suspect she may have experienced a medical emergency. Her legal status regarding potential charges or arrests remains uncertain. Trooper Shafer McKune from the Illinois State Police's public information office shared an update stating that Sangamon County prosecutors will release further information once they conclude a thorough investigation. The town of Chatham, located near Springfield and with a population of approximately 15,000 residents, was the site of this unfortunate incident.
