
Chicago Park District employees seriously injured in fireworks mishap
Two Chicago Park District workers sustained serious injuries from a firework incident at Humboldt Park beach on Saturday morning. The 19-year-old man and 24-year-old woman reportedly ignited the firework, resulting in injuries from shrapnel including burns on their chests and bodies, with the woman injuring her right hand and the man sustaining injuries to his hand and eye. Both employees were transported to Stroger Hospital where they were described to be in serious condition. The victims, identified as park district employees, are collaborating with authorities in the ongoing investigation. It is noted that fireworks and similar explosives are prohibited on Park District premises. There is no mention of whether the workers were on duty during the occurrence, and as of now, there is no information regarding potential charges by law enforcement.
