Charges filed for crash that killed Deputy Sheriff and spouse

In Ozark, Missouri, Christian County Prosecuting Attorney Kristen Tuohy has filed criminal charges against Garrett Grimm Cleaver, 40, following the fatal collision on June 30, 2025, that took the lives of Deputy Sheriff Michael “Mike” Adams, 52, and his wife, Ashley Adams. The charges include two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of aggravated fleeing resulting in death, one count of aggravated fleeing resulting in injury, and one count of second-degree assault. The collision occurred on Melton Road in Highlandville, Missouri, and involved Cleaver's eastbound vehicle crossing the center line and striking the Adams' vehicle after fleeing from a traffic stop. Sheriff Brad Cole expressed condolences for the victims and emphasized the commitment to seeking justice for the Adams family, noting concerns about the suspect's criminal history and the need to address failures in the criminal justice system.
