
Charges filed against Jannus owner Jeff Knight for Clearwater Ferry collision
The boat operator involved in the collision with the Clearwater Ferry that resulted in one fatality and 10 injuries and then leaving the scene, has been charged with eight felony counts related to the incident. The charges were announced by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission against Jeff Knight, who is a prominent local businessperson. Each felony charge carries a potential sentence of up to 30 years in prison, with a mandatory minimum of four years if the accident causes a death. Additional misdemeanor charges are also expected to be filed by the Pinellas-Pasco State Attorney’s Office. The investigation into the incident involved cooperation between multiple agencies and efforts to seek justice for those affected. The U.S. Coast Guard is also conducting a simultaneous investigation into the involvement of the Clearwater Ferry in the crash. As of now, Knight has not been booked on the charges, and the case continues to unfold.
