Charges filed 3 years after deadly collision in Big Cottonwood Canyon
Three years after a tragic accident in Big Cottonwood Canyon that resulted in the death of an expectant mother and injuries to others, charges have been filed against the driver involved and the owner of the company. Dalton Nathan Wheeler, 31, and Jonathan Ryan Sargent, 41, both from Ogden, have been accused of two counts of manslaughter in connection with the incident. The crash occurred on Aug. 15, 2022, when a dump truck carrying asphalt lost control on the hillside near Storm Mountain and collided with a car. The driver of the car, Jessica Keetch Minnesota, lost her life in the accident. Authorities discovered that the dump truck had equipment malfunctions and witness accounts indicated that the driver was speeding and inexperienced in handling the vehicle. The investigation also revealed that maintenance issues were present in the dump truck.
