Charge filed against Franklin County driver for fatal collision

A driver involved in a fatal crash in Franklin County last year has been charged with various offenses, including homicide by vehicle, after State Police reported that he was speeding before veering off the road and colliding with a tree. Kirkland Knepper, 24, of Waynesboro, appeared before Magisterial District Judge Kelly Rock's office on Sunday for the arraignment. The crash occurred on June 23 before 8:30 p.m. along Old Forge Road in Quincy Township, with passenger Benjamin Browall tragically losing his life after being ejected from the vehicle upon impact. Knepper, who was driving a blue Subaru WRX, was found to have been traveling at 60 mph in a 40 mph zone. Despite claiming memory loss about the incident, he mentioned attempting to call 911 unsuccessfully due to poor reception and later seeking help by walking towards Waynesboro. In addition to the more severe charges, Knepper also faces summary offenses such as careless driving causing unintentional death, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic lanes. He has been released on $25,000 unsecured bail and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on April 22.
