Cause of death of ex-Premier League player George Baldock confirmed as drowning incident
Officials have confirmed the cause of death of former English Premier League player George Baldock, who tragically passed away in a swimming pool accident at his home in Greece in October. A recent inquest at the Milton Keynes Coroners Court disclosed that the 31-year-old soccer player died from drowning; a post-mortem examination showed no presence of drugs or alcohol in his system at the time. According to a report reviewed by Fox News Digital, it was revealed that Baldock had an enlarged heart which could have made him susceptible to irregular heartbeats known as heart arrhythmias. While some heart arrhythmias are harmless, others in certain cases can lead to severe, life-threatening symptoms. His death has been officially ruled as accidental. Baldock, who had also played for the Greek national team, was found in the pool of his residence in Attica, Greece on October 9. Despite the efforts of first responders to resuscitate him, they were unfortunately unsuccessful. Born in England, Baldock had a successful career with Sheffield United, playing three seasons in the Premier League. He then signed with Panathinaikos Football Club in Greece in 2024, appearing for the club just days before his tragic death. With 12 matches for Greece's national team, Baldock last played in March during a game against Georgia in the Euro 2024 playoffs. The Greek Soccer Federation expressed deep sorrow at his loss, offering condolences to his family and all those saddened by the news.
