Carter County crash closes large portion of eastern Kentucky highway

CARTER COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) — A large portion of I-64 East has been closed following a deadly crash, according to Rowan County Coroner John Northcutt and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC). It happened just after 2 a.m. on April 10, according to a Facebook post from Coroner Northcutt. "I-64 eastbound is currently closed at the 151 Mile Marker in Carter County due to a fatality accident," he wrote. "If you are traveling east I would recommend traveling on US 60 at this time." Kentucky transportation officials said a detour around the crash was set up at exit 137 in Morehead. The area was expected to reopen around 8 a.m. The closure runs along eastbound lanes from mile marker 137 to marker 156, according to KYTC's interactive collision map. The Morehead Police Department took to Facebook just before 8 a.m. on Friday, announcing that traffic was being routed through the city following the deadly crash. "Traffic is being diverted through Morehead along US 60 and KY 32; please be patient as it's expected to cause delays," officers said. The identities of those involved in the crash have yet to be released. FOX 56 News is working to learn more. The area was reopened just after 8:30 a.m. on Friday, according to KYTC officials.
