Car overturns and sinks in crash in Polk County; five hurt
A two-car collision occurred on Sunday morning at the intersection of N.E. 112th Street and East University Avenue near Mitchellville, resulting in five individuals being injured. One of the vehicles overturned and ended up submerged in water. Fortunately, a deputy and witnesses collaborated to right the overturned vehicle. An adult male from the submerged vehicle was airlifted to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition. The other vehicle's occupants, two adults and two juveniles, sustained minor injuries and were transported to the hospital by ground ambulance. While the Iowa State Patrol investigates the incident, traffic heading west on East University Avenue at N.E. 112th Street is closed.
