This story has been updated. MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A man was arrested on various charges, including DUI, following a crash that left a woman dead and his two children critically injured in Raleigh Thursday night. Travis Johnson, 33, is charged with driving under the influence, public intoxication, reckless driving, and two counts of reckless endangerment. A little after 9:30 p.m., officers say they responded to the fatal crash on Stage Road and Robbiedon Street. Authorities said that a Nissan Murano, driven by Johnson, was traveling westbound on Stage Road when its front bumper struck a curb of the median. Johnson continued driving on the median, and eventually, the Murano overturned as he attempted to gain control of the vehicle, according to the police report. A 33-year-old female in the vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene, and two juvenile passengers were taken to Lebonheur Children's Hospital in critical condition. Police said the children were 1 and 2 months old. As law enforcement officers spoke with Johnson, one officer said his eyes were bloodshot and that he smelled like intoxicants. He was taken to Regional One Hospital. Authorities said that based on the officer's observations and Johnson's behavior, they believe he was operating the Murano under the influence of an intoxicant and was ordered to take a sobriety test. Johnson performed poorly, and the test revealed multiple clues of impairment consistent with alcohol intoxication, court records show. The results of the sobriety test are still pending. After further investigation of the crash scene, officers said they found an open beer container inside the Murano and one on the outside of the vehicle. Once Johnson was medically cleared, he was booked at 201 Poplar. There is no bond or court date set for him at this time.
