Car crash at Oakdale animal rescue leads to loss of life for one cat and escape of others
An animal rescue center in Oakdale is currently closed to the public following a car accident that tragically resulted in the loss of one cat, with several others fleeing. The ASTRO Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing cats and dogs, reported the incident over the weekend. The foundation's adoption services director recounted the event where a car crashed into the building, causing significant damage. Sadly, one cat was fatally injured, and six others managed to escape. While three of the missing cats have been located, efforts are ongoing to find the remaining three. The damaged area was the only space within the foundation where cats were able to roam freely without cages, offering a unique environment for potential adopters to interact with the animals. The ASTRO Foundation, which has been active in animal rescue since 2012, is now seeking support from the community in the form of foster families, donations, and general assistance in recovering from the incident. Despite the setback, the foundation remains committed to its mission of helping animals in need and hopes to rebuild the affected area. The extent of insurance coverage for the damage is still being assessed, and a kind donor has offered a reward per cat successfully returned to the facility.
