Following the chaotic sequence of events, an Aurora resident, who wished to remain unidentified for safety reasons, described the sudden disruption to their day: "I was asleep and I woke up to a loud bang." Recounting the surprising turn of events near 7th Street and East Joliet Avenue, the resident shared, “I just looked out the window and saw the bottom of a car." The Aurora Police Department reported that a Subaru carrying a woman and children collided with another car, resulting in the Subaru flipping over. A BMW then arrived, with a man and woman helping the children from the overturned vehicle into their own. Misunderstanding the situation, neighbors feared a kidnapping and got involved. Despite attempts to diffuse the situation peacefully, it escalated when a woman fired a shot, prompting shock and concern among witnesses.
