Camera installed at risky intersections in Utah captures and shares accident footage for free
In St. George, Utah, a local company has set up traffic cameras at intersections with high accident rates around the state. Launched in September 2023, CollisionCam offers drivers free video footage of accidents they were involved in. The cameras are strategically placed in popular intersections in Washington and Salt Lake Counties, focusing on areas prone to accidents. Tate Langston, the founder, was inspired to start the business after his own experience being hit by a drunk driver who fled the scene. Since its inception, CollisionCam's cameras have captured some of the most severe crashes in Utah, aiding in the identification of hit-and-run suspects. Langston hopes the cameras will deter reckless behavior and assist in maintaining community safety. Additionally, the camera footage has been instrumental in helping innocent drivers rectify tickets by providing evidence of what truly occurred. According to Langston, the cameras have been installed in 13 Utah cities, and the company frequently shares noteworthy footage on its social media platforms. Data from the Department of Public Safety indicates an alarming 74 road fatalities in Salt Lake County in 2024, the highest in the state, while Washington County ranked 4th with 17 road deaths.
