California man charged in deadly crash that claimed life of Chicagoan
CHICAGO (WGN) — A California man faces a felony drug charge in connection with a deadly crash that claimed the life of a Chicago man in far south suburban Crete. According to Illinois State Police, 58-year-old William D Fanning of Rancho Cucamonga faces two counts of aggravated driving under the influence of drugs involving death concerning a two-vehicle crash on Wednesday, April 16. ISP says a truck tractor semi-trailer traveled eastbound on Burrville Road as a Chevrolet Malibu traveled southbound on the Calumet Expressway ( Illinois Route 394). According to State troopers, the semi failed to yield while turning left, causing the front end of the Chevrolet to strike the semi's trailer and become lodged under it. First responders rushed the 40-year-old driver of the Chevrolet, identified as Joshua D. Kutz, to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. According to ISP, troopers arrested Fanning, who reportedly ingested methamphetamine before the fatal crash. Will County prosecutors formally charged Fanning, and he remains in jail pending his initial court appearance. ISP did not release a booking photo of the suspect.
