Business owner from Northwest Arkansas arrested by ICE following car crash

Over the weekend, a woman from Prairie Grove, Arkansas, faced the uncertainty of not being able to see her husband for a while after he was arrested and sent to an out-of-state U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center. Waldin Sanchez, 27, was apprehended in Prairie Grove on November 1 after a car accident. He now faces charges for driving without a license and reckless driving. Maria Verde, who operates Del Rio Supermarket in Prairie Grove with her husband Sanchez, shared that he was involved in a car crash on October 31 which led to his arrest due to suspicion of driving under the influence. With a language barrier hindering communication, he was taken to the Washington County Detention Center for sobriety tests, where he was found to have failed several and declined to take a breathalyzer test. Following his booking, authorities discovered his illegal immigration status, resulting in his transfer to an ICE detention facility in Louisiana. Verde is now managing their business and taking care of their three children alone. Despite the difficulties, she has received overwhelming support after sharing her story on social media, with customers like Jessie Kersh Hunt expressing empathy for her and her family. Verde remains determined to stand by her husband and keep their business running, even planning to sell tamales to help cover his legal expenses until his court date.
