Bus driver passes away following accident on SR-163 in San Diego
A tragic incident occurred this morning on State Route 163 resulting in the death of an MTS bus driver. The driver, a 60-year-old individual, suffered a medical emergency while driving in the northbound lanes near University Avenue at approximately 9:00 AM. This led to the bus veering off the road, hitting a guardrail on the right shoulder, and temporarily blocking the University Avenue on-ramp. The driver was rushed to the hospital where they later passed away. Fortunately, no passengers on the bus were injured. The California Highway Patrol is actively investigating the accident, and details such as the driver's identity are being withheld pending notification of their family. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to have played a role in the crash.
