Bus crash injures 9 children and 1 adult in Leander ISD

Nine children and one adult were receiving medical treatment on Wednesday evening after a Leander school district bus overturned near Big Sandy Creek in northwestern Travis County, as reported by authorities. In a 6 p.m. update on social media, Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services stated that two children had sustained serious injuries, but they were not expected to be life-threatening, while the rest of the passengers had non-life-threatening injuries. The bus, carrying 42 children and one adult and en route on the district's first day of school, rolled over after veering off the roadway. Emergency responders received multiple 911 calls around 3:15 p.m. reporting the accident at Nameless Road and Palomino Ranch Drive. The incident did not involve the area's recent flood damage. Various medical services, including ambulances and helicopters, were deployed, and families not taken to hospitals were advised to go to Round Mountain Baptist Church, serving as a reunification site. The investigation is ongoing, and the cause of the crash remains undetermined. Authorities commended the response of emergency personnel and expressed gratitude for the absence of fatalities and severe injuries. Counseling services are available for affected students, with ongoing updates expected.
