Bus collision injures Rantoul High School student and driver.

A student from Rantoul Township High School and a bus driver were injured in a collision between a school bus and a car on Tuesday afternoon. The incident took place at the intersection of E. Champaign Avenue and S. Century Blvd. around 2:06 p.m. According to a statement from the Rantoul Police Department, the bus was carrying 18 students and moving westbound on Champaign Avenue when a Toyota sedan, traveling eastbound on the same road, attempted to make a left turn onto Century Blvd. and was struck by the bus. The bus then went off the road, hitting an unoccupied Tesla sedan in a nearby parking lot, but thankfully avoiding other vehicles parked there. Following the accident, one student complained of head pain and was taken to the hospital by emergency services for minor injuries. Meanwhile, the bus driver sustained cuts but did not require hospitalization. The car driver, 22-year-old Brandon Ruiz-Garcia, received a citation for failure to yield and was treated at the scene. School officials made sure all students were safely reunited with their families or alternative transportation. Law enforcement remained at the site until around 2:50 p.m. to continue discussions with the driver of the car. Superintendent Scott Amerio expressed gratitude for the bus driver's swift reaction that prevented a more severe accident. This is the second school bus-related incident in Rantoul within the past week.
