Burlingame mourns child's death, advocates for pedestrian safety

The Burlingame community recently gathered to honor and remember 4-year-old Ayden Fang, who tragically passed away in a car accident. At a vigil held on Sunday, over a hundred individuals came together to show support for Ayden's family. His uncle, Michael Deng, expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming support they have received during this difficult time. He described it as a safety net that has prevented them from feeling completely overwhelmed. Deng spoke alongside a photo of Ayden proudly showcasing a sheet of books he had read for a library challenge, symbolizing the unfinished chapters in his young life. The loss of Ayden still feels surreal to his loved ones. Despite the heartbreak, Ayden's impact was profound. His teacher, Amna Rehamne, shared fond memories of Ayden as a student who exhibited a love for learning and an eagerness to acquire new skills. Ayden's father, Ming Fang, shared a touching anecdote about a Lego tower built by Ayden that now serves as a poignant reminder of his son's desire to protect his city. Ming Fang expressed a commitment to improving pedestrian safety in California in Ayden's memory, with the goal of uniting and enhancing community safety. Additionally, Truffle Poke Bar will reopen with a fundraiser to support pedestrian safety initiatives in Burlingame. Michael Deng urged everyone to honor Ayden's legacy by embracing his capacity for unconditional love and encouraged others to do the same.
