Buffalo Grove High School staff member critically injured in crash near school grounds

BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. (WGN) — A Buffalo Grove High School staff member was critically injured in a crash near school grounds Tuesday afternoon. The incident happened just before 3:30 p.m. close by the the school, located in the 1100 block of West Dundee Road. According to Buffalo Grove police, a vehicle was attempting to exit the parking lot onto Dundee Road when it left the roadway and struck a pole. The impact caused the pole to hit a staff member nearby. Officers who were already on scene immediately rushed to help and provided aid until emergency crews arrived. The staff member, whose identity has not been released, was taken to a nearby hospital and remains in critical condition. Police said the driver involved has been fully cooperating. Dundee Road was shut down for more than three hours following the crash. School officials said several studetns and staff members witnessed the incident and support will be provided to those in need. "Traumatic events like this can be upsetting to hear about, and support is available at school for any students who may need to speak with a member of Student Services or trusted staff member, both tomorrow and in the days ahead," Principal Jeff Wardle said in a letter shared with parents on Tuesday. The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
