Brother of Pat Tillman arrested following fiery collision with San Jose post office, according to USPS
Authorities reported that Richard Tillman, the brother of the late NFL player and U.S. Army Ranger Pat Tillman, was taken into custody following a collision and fire at a South San Jose post office early Sunday morning. The incident occurred before 3 a.m. on Crown Boulevard. The San Jose Fire Department stated that a vehicle crashed into the post office and ignited. Richard Tillman, 44, the sibling of Pat, was identified as the apprehended suspect by U.S. Postal Inspector Matthew Norfleet. After leaving his NFL career to join the Army in 2002, Pat Tillman tragically lost his life in Afghanistan on April 22, 2004, at the age of 27. Initially, it was incorrectly communicated that he was killed in action, but later, it was revealed that he had been a victim of friendly fire. Firefighters swiftly responded to the scene, extinguishing the blaze around 4:30 a.m; however, the post office was extensively damaged. Investigations are ongoing, with suspicions raised about the possibility of the fire being deliberately set. Impacted customers utilizing PO boxes at the Almaden station are advised to collect their mail from the Willow Glen Post Office, open Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., while presenting a photo ID for retrieval.
