Bronx River Parkway accidents lead to highway closure following 2 deaths, according to NYPD

Part of the Bronx River Parkway was closed for several hours after a major accident involving seven vehicles, resulting in two fatalities, as reported by the New York City police. The crash occurred in the southbound lanes near East Gun Hill Road in the Bronx shortly after midnight on Monday. The NYPD redirected all southbound traffic off the highway at East 233rd Street while they conducted an investigation into the incident. The lanes were eventually reopened at approximately 8:30 a.m. Two young men, aged 23 and 21, who were riding motorcycles, were thrown from their bikes in the crash and unfortunately succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, according to the NYPD. Initial reports indicated that the fatal collision involved four vehicles, with a subsequent accident involving three more vehicles attempting to navigate around the traffic. Commuters were advised to consider using the Major Deegan Expressway as an alternative route heading southbound through the Bronx until the parkway became accessible again.
