Brighton PD partners with CarFax to provide online motor vehicle accident reports

BRIGHTON, N.Y. (WROC) — The Brighton Police Department has formally announced it now provides an online service for motor vehicle accident reports in partnership with the vehicle history reporting company CarFax. The platform will allow residents involved in accidents, insurance companies, and others to access vehicle accident reports remotely, providing a more accessible and time-efficient option than visiting the police department to obtain necessary information. Captain Tim Karch with the Brighton Police Department told News 8 about the process of obtaining a report prior to the collaboration. "Before we partnered with CarFax, an individual involved in the accident would have to be named on the accident report. Would have to come down to the office, they'd have to show an ID showing that their name matched the name on the accident report, wait to have staff pull the report, and make them a copy of it," Captain Karch said. "Then, they'd have to take that report and go and send it to their insurance company or attorneys, depending on what process they're using to resolve their issues." The motor vehicle reports can now be viewed on the Department's Crimewatch website. While the online option is available, those without internet access or who would prefer to come in to receive their motor vehicle accident report may continue to visit the Police Department located at 2300 Elmwood Avenue in Rochester.
