Boy charged for involvement in fatal crash with stolen car in Jessup, police say

JESSUP, Md. (DC News Now) -- Police said on Thursday that a teenager is being charged for a fatal crash in a stolen car that happened in Jessup. The Howard County Police Department (HCPD) said a 16-year-old boy has been charged with auto manslaughter and unlawful taking of a motor vehicle after an incident that happened on May 9. HCPD said that at around 3 p.m., a 2017 Hyundai Sonata, which was marked as stolen, was driving eastbound on Guilford Road when it crossed the double yellow line to pass a 2021 Tesla Model Y. The Tesla was trying to make a left turn onto Twelve Sons Court. As a result, the Hyundai sideswiped the Tesla and then sideswiped a 2010 Honda Fit, before crashing head-on with a 2021 Honda Civic. HCPD said four juvenile boys ran from the scene. The 16-year-old boy was taken to the hospital in a serious condition. The boy was released from the hospital and then taken to the Department of Juvenile Services. The driver of the Honda Civic was also taken to the hospital, where she died. She was identified as 69-year-old Bonnie Fuller Griffith. HCPD said it is still trying to figure out the identities of the other boys.
