Bond set for suspects in Grapevine Lake jet ski collision

The two undocumented migrants accused in the tragic hit-and-run incident at Grapevine Lake over Memorial Day weekend have had bond amounts set. Despite efforts from political officials and immigration authorities to prevent bond assignment for Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez and Maikel Coello Perozo following the passing of 18-year-old Ava Moore, a magistrate decided on Thursday to set Gonzalez's bond at $500,000 for manslaughter and Perozo's bond at just over $3,000 for misdemeanors related to the incident. Both individuals currently have an immigration hold, which means that even if they were to post bond, they would remain in custody until they address the state charges against them or until they are deported. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement would handle their transfer to a federal facility if bail is posted, or they would remain at the Tarrant County jail where they are presently held. Moore's funeral is scheduled for Saturday in North Texas, where she had returned to visit her parents for Memorial Day before the tragic event occurred. The U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School graduate, who was set to begin military basic training shortly, will receive full military honors at her service. The family has requested privacy during this time of mourning. The accident took place near Oak Grove Park on Grapevine Lake on May 25, with Moore suffering fatal injuries after being struck while kayaking. Witnesses provided crucial information to authorities following the incident, leading to the identification of Gonzalez and Perozo, who had entered the country illegally from Venezuela. After entering the country, both had been processed and released on their own recognizance, but are now facing removal proceedings.
