Body of Dallas firefighter recovered at Lake Lavon following kayaking incident

The body of a missing Dallas firefighter, Juan Chaidez, was discovered in Lake Lavon on Monday morning near Bratonia Park. Chaidez went missing after his kayak capsized on Saturday, with witnesses seeing him and a dog in the water, later finding only the dog near the kayak. The dog was rescued and is in good health. Despite challenging conditions from high winds and submerged trees, Collin County Sheriff's Office deployed various resources, including patrol units, drone operators, and a dive team to locate Chaidez. Dallas Fire-Rescue noted that Chaidez had worked as a firefighter paramedic for over six years. The Collin County Sheriff's Office extended their sympathies to Chaidez's family and colleagues and acknowledged the various agencies involved in the search efforts. Bratonia Park is closed during the ongoing investigation.
