Body found in plane wreckage near Lowell
A fatal incident occurred in Vergennes Township, Michigan, when a small aircraft crashed into a self-storage facility near the Lowell City Airport, triggering a fire and causing thick smoke to rise into the sky. The crash took place at the intersection of Vergennes Street and Lincoln Lake Avenue, just north of Lowell, around 4:30 p.m. Later in the evening, the Kent County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the discovery of a body in the wreckage but did not disclose the individual's identity. Kent County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott Dietrich mentioned that witnesses reported it was a small private plane that went down into the storage facility and caught fire. Sgt. Dietrich did not have immediate information about the pilot or the cause of the crash, and efforts of 15 fire departments were required to contain the fire. An eyewitness shared that the plane nosedived between buildings, causing a massive blaze. Other witnesses recounted the terrifying experience of seeing the aircraft flying low and hearing the crash. The incident led to road closures in the area, with traffic being redirected to alternate routes.
