BMW M5 Safety Car Crash Captured in Agonizing Detail

The Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas was the exciting setting for the third round of the 2025 MotoGP season. The pole position holder, Marc Marquez, surprised everyone by switching from his wet-spec bike to his dry-spec bike at the last minute, prompting nine other riders to do the same. However, due to safety concerns, race officials called for a red flag and decided on a new start. Adding to the chaos, the race was further delayed as the MotoGP safety car, a BMW M5, crashed before the race could begin. The incident was caught on camera, showing the car losing control and crashing into barriers, potentially due to a variety of factors like the slippery track surface or cold tires. Although the M5 has advanced features like xDrive, the 717 horsepower V-8 engine, and electric motor, it appears that these were not enough to prevent the accident. Interestingly, this is not the first time an M5 safety car has been involved in an accident, with a similar incident occurring during the 2017 Grand Prix of Perez. BMW has a long history of supplying safety cars to MotoGP, with the M5 Touring being used this year, but fans still fondly remember the Z8 roadster from the 2002 season.
