Bicyclists killed in crash on I-44 Access Road identified by DPS

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — Officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety have identified the two bicyclists who died following a crash on the access road of Interstate 44 in Wichita Falls. First responders were dispatched to reports of a crash involving two bicyclists on the southbound access road of I-44 near the Bacon Switch Road exit near Vitro Glass at around 4:12 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.  Officials said DPS, the Wichita County Sheriff's Office and AMR all responded to the scene. According to our crew at the scene, first responders were attempting life-saving measures on at least one of the victims. Authorities also called for AirEvac, but that call was cancelled. According to Sgt. Juan Gutierrez, spokesperson for DPS, the two cyclists have been identified as Kevin Reese, 45, and Mckaylee Reese, 23, of Wichita Falls. According to the DPS preliminary investigation, the vehicle, a Volvo XC40, was traveling southbound on the service road in the right lane. The two bicyclists were traveling south in the right lane and shoulder side by side ahead of the car. The DPS report states: "The driver of Vehicle 1 was inattentive, failed to control speed, and struck the rear of Bicycles 1 and 2." The driver is a 28-year-old female from Lakeside City. The wreck remains under investigation. Further details have not been released at this time.
