Bicyclist fatally struck in hit-and-run in Merced County, according to CHP
A tragic incident occurred in Merced County when a man riding a bicycle was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver early Friday morning. The California Highway Patrol reported that the collision took place around 6:20 a.m. on Santa Fe Drive, just west of Shaffer Road near Winton. Unfortunately, the bicyclist, aged around 40 to 50, was found unresponsive at the scene and later pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash did not stop and fled the scene. The CHP is seeking information from any witnesses who may have knowledge about the incident and is urging the public to reach out to Investigating Officer Tyler Mason with any details.
