Bicyclist dead after in Carbon County crash

CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — First responders were on the scene of a deadly crash in Carbon County. Officials tell 28/22 news one person was killed and another sent to the hospital. The Carbon County Communication Center told 28/22 News that Pennsylvania State Police Hazleton were called at about 5:00 p.m. for a reported crash. Officials say one person is dead and another was injured and taken to a nearby hospital after the crash. The Carbon County Coroner's Office sent out a release Tuesday night explaining that they were called to the crash between a car and a bicycle. They say the crash happened on Spring Mountain Road in Banks Township when a bicyclist was struck by a car and fatally injured. The identity of the person who died is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin, and an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday morning at Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest, according to the coroner's office. The Carbon County Coroner's Office says they are investigating the incident along with the Pennsylvania State Police Hazleton and the State Police reconstruction unit.
