BCSO: Drunk teens crash stolen car during 110 mph chase on I-65

(WXIN/WTTV) — Three juveniles have been criminally charged after police say they drunkenly crashed a stolen car on Interstate 65 during a high-speed chase. Bartholomew County Sheriff's deputies were alerted around 11:30 p.m. last Friday that a reckless driver was speeding southbound on I-65. The car was reportedly seen swerving across the road and brake-checking other cars. A release sent Monday by BCSO says deputies tried to pull the car over, but the driver drove away instead. A police chase followed, with the suspect vehicle reportedly reaching over 110 mph. Officials say the driver -- later identified as a 16-year-old -- attempted to exit the interstate at the 64-mile marker but lost control of the car. The vehicle then went airborne as it left the roadway, eventually flipping over and crashing into some nearby trees. Deputies say they found the driver and two other juveniles inside the car. All three occupants received medical treatment on scene, with one of them eventually being taken by ambulance to Riley Children's Hospital. The sheriff's office said deputies believed all three juveniles were intoxicated and the driver had marijuana. The car they were driving had previously been reported stolen out of Indianapolis. The 16-year-old driver was then taken into custody and booked into the Bartholomew County Youth Services Center on the following charges: The other two juveniles inside the car will reportedly have their criminal charges forwarded to them due to their medical treatment. No other information was immediately provided by BCSO.
