Baytown: Two children killed in accident with officer, police report

According to Baytown PD, tragically, two children have passed away after a collision in Baytown involving a police officer. On the evening of October 23, Baytown Police Department units responded to the incident at West Baker Road and Country Club Drive. The on-duty officer was injured in the crash and was taken for treatment by Life Flight. A woman was driving a 2023 Honda Odyssey with five minors as passengers; two children were airlifted to a hospital while the others were treated on-site. Officer Michael Hightower, involved in the crash, sustained a leg injury but has since been released. Reports indicate that the officer had the right of way at a green light. Sadly, two children have been confirmed deceased, while two other siblings remain in critical condition. The Baytown community is rallying to support the Russell family; the Baytown Little League has initiated a raffle fundraiser for them. Additionally, a GoFundMe campaign has raised nearly $50,000 for the family.
