Basehor teenager, 16, killed in collision on Tuesday evening
A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday night when a 16-year-old Basehor teenager lost his life in a collision on U.S. 24 Highway. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that the teen, Cody Lamping, was driving a Toyota when he ran a red light at the intersection with 155th Street and was struck by a Chevrolet pickup. Cody later passed away due to his injuries, while the pickup driver sustained minor injuries. Both individuals were wearing seat belts at the time. Cody was a student at Basehor-Linwood USD 458, and the district expressed deep sadness over his loss. The community had previously expressed concerns about the safety of that stretch of U.S. 24 Highway and had been discussing efforts to lower the speed limit in the area to improve safety.
