Bar announces reopening date seven months after car hits Downtown building
Downtown Columbus bar Char Bar is set to reopen this week after being involved in a car crash seven months ago. The incident occurred on September 1, where a driver struck the bar on North High Street. The bar made the announcement on Instagram that it will resume operations this Thursday during its regular hours. The post expressed excitement about welcoming back customers and invited them to join the reopening. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the accident. The driver, a 42-year-old man, faced legal charges shortly after the incident, including failure to control, failure to stop after an accident, and impaired driving misdemeanors. The case is ongoing as per Franklin County court records. Despite the attention garnered by similar incidents in 2024, the Columbus Division of Fire Battalion Chief noted that there was not actually an increase in vehicle crashes into buildings compared to previous years. In 2024, the fire department responded to 139 such incidents, whereas in 2023 they dealt with 279 incidents and in 2022, 313.
