Arrests made following police chase ending in car crash

Two men in their 50s were taken into custody by Cheektowaga police after causing a traffic collision in the midst of a chase by law enforcement on Thursday. The incident began when the men fled from a shoplifting episode at the Walden Galleria store named "Going, Going, Gone!" The police were notified just before 11:30 a.m. and quickly responded to the scene. After locating a vehicle that matched a witness's description, a pursuit ensued heading north on Union Road from Galleria Drive. The suspects allegedly drove dangerously, ignoring police lights and sirens as well as traffic signals, eventually leading to a crash at Union Road and Genesee Street. Preston Haris, 55, from Lackawanna, who was recognized as the driver, faced multiple charges such as theft, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and others. Byron Robinson, 56, from Buffalo, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and released with a court appearance summons. Both individuals were apprehended shortly after the collision.
