Arrest made in fatal hit-and-run of Texas Tech graduate in Dallas
Dallas police have apprehended a suspect in a tragic hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a recent Texas Tech graduate. 31-year-old Jose Hernandez De Leon was taken into custody on Monday and is now facing charges for a fatal collision. If found guilty, he could be sentenced to up to two decades behind bars. Police in Dallas believe De Leon is accountable for the passing of 23-year-old Seth Rains on the morning of July 26. Rains, a recent graduate of Texas Tech, was with friends at a concert in the Dallas Design District. While returning to their hotel around 2:40 a.m., Rains was struck by a car at the intersection of Turtle Creek Boulevard and Market Center. Despite efforts from Rains' friends to stop the driver, the individual of a black Lexus sedan made a brief return to the site before fleeing after learning Rains had been hit. Investigations at the scene found a broken car mirror, assisting in identifying the vehicle involved. Surveillance footage traced the vehicle back to De Leon, who had reported it stolen following the incident. However, videos captured De Leon driving the car both before and after the crash, undermining his claim of theft. Rains' devastated parents expressed relief at the arrest, recalling their son as a compassionate, hardworking individual. Friends remembered him for his infectious laughter and vibrant spirit. The father of the victim described the situation as deeply sorrowful, emphasizing Seth's exemplary character and the injustice of a life cut short.
