Arrest made in deadly West Valley crash

A man in West Valley City was taken into custody after authorities say he was part of a deadly collision and then attempted to leave the scene. Osvaldo Chavez Segovia, 20, was taken to Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of various charges including fleeing the scene of a deadly accident, obstructing justice, providing false information about an accident, not possessing a driver's license, and being a minor who drank alcohol. An incident occurred just before 1 a.m. and involved three vehicles, with several individuals leaving the area. Regrettably, one individual lost their life in the crash, while three others were transported to the hospital for medical attention. When officers arrived, Chavez was initially found at the scene but allegedly claimed he was just a bystander and filled out a statement using incorrect details. Following an investigation, officers located Chavez at a residence hours later and discovered that he had been consuming alcohol. It was also revealed that Chavez did not possess a driver's license. Further details about the victim have not been disclosed at this time.
