Appeal rejected for 19-year-old found guilty in 2022 crash that claimed 2 lives in Strongsville
The Ohio Supreme Court rejected an appeal from a 19-year-old woman convicted of murder for intentionally causing a car accident that resulted in the deaths of her boyfriend and his friend in 2022. The tragic incident occurred on July 31, 2022, around 6 a.m. near Progress and Alameda drives in Strongsville. The occupants, Mackenzie Shirilla, Davion Flanagan, 19, and Dominic Russo, 20, had to be rescued from the vehicle. Shirilla was airlifted to MetroHealth in Cleveland for medical treatment, while Flanagan and Russo were tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Legal documents confirmed that Shirilla deliberately caused the deaths of the two individuals by crashing the vehicle she was operating. In November of 2022, Shirilla was apprehended and faced charges including four counts of murder, four counts of felonious assault, aggravated vehicular homicide, drug possession, and possessing criminal tools. Following a guilty verdict in 2023, she was handed down a minimum 15-year prison sentence for two concurrent life sentences.
