Apparent hit-and-run driver in Snohomish killed in second crash after fleeing
Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding two crashes involving the same driver, who died in the second crash on Monday night. Snohomish County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) Collision Investigation Unit (CIU) detectives said the incident began when a 55-year-old driver is believed to have hit a Ford Mustang near 180th St SE, just west of Broadway Avenue. The driver of the Mustang told investigators the suspect vehicle did not pull over after the crash and continued southbound on Broadway. The fleeing driver was speeding when he crossed into oncoming traffic near Yew Way, just south of the train tracks, and hit a Toyota Camry head-on that was heading north, according to the CIU. The 55-year-old driver who was involved in both crashes died at the scene. Snohomish County deputies responded at 10:40 p.m. The driver of the Toyota appeared to have minor injuries but did not want to go to the hospital, the SCSO said. No other significant injuries were reported. The identification, and cause and manner of death of the 55-year-old man will be released by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner.
