Analyzing Black Box Data from Air India Crash for Accident Sequence

Almost two weeks after a tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad claimed the lives of 274 individuals, the government has reported a significant breakthrough. They announced that critical flight data from the plane's front black box has been successfully recovered. On June 25, 2025, the Crash Protection Module was retrieved and its data downloaded at the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) lab for analysis. The Cockpit Voice Recorders and Flight Data Recorders are currently being examined to reconstruct the events leading to the accident and enhance aviation safety measures. The recovery of the black boxes involved careful retrieval from the crash site and subsequent transfer to Delhi under secure conditions. Despite progress in data recovery, the appointment of a lead investigator by the AAIB following the crash has yet to occur. This delay raises concerns about the efficiency and timeliness of the investigation process, which is required to adhere to specific timelines set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The tragic incident involving a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner on its way to London's Gatwick Airport resulted in significant loss of life and ongoing efforts to identify and account for all victims.
