Alijah Arenas discharged from hospital within 1 week after car accident, according to family
Alijah Arenas has been discharged from the hospital in under a week after being admitted following a severe car accident, as per a statement from his family shared with ESPN. Though his road to full recovery has just begun, Arenas remains in good spirits and is receiving plenty of love and support, his family assured. The family mentioned that Arenas, a highly-touted basketball recruit committed to the University of Southern California, will be closely monitored while he continues to recover at home. The accident occurred just before 5 a.m. PT on April 24, with Arenas driving his Tesla Cybertruck when it collided with a fire hydrant and a tree on his way back from the gym. Bystanders had to break a window to rescue him. Following his hospitalization in serious condition, doctors put Arenas into an induced coma due to smoke inhalation, and he later regained consciousness, able to write notes but still on a ventilator, according to his family. The family, through Josiah Johnson of Arenas' father's YouTube show, stated that Arenas did not sustain any major injuries in the crash. The 18-year-old star, son of NBA icon Gilbert Arenas and reality TV star Laura Goven, is a standout shooting guard who was ranked as the top player in his position nationally and the 10th overall recruit in the 2025 class by 247Sports. Arenas put up impressive statistics during his time at Chatsworth High School in Los Angeles and even scored 11 points in the McDonald’s All-American Boys Game earlier in April.
