Alderson Fire Chief buried after drag race crash

A solemn moment filled the McAlester Expo Center as the radio call for Alderson Fire Unit #83 went unanswered, signifying the loss of their fire chief, Jim McCoy. His son, Erik, stepped in to answer the call in his father's place. McCoy, a dedicated public servant who had also worked in the oil and gas industry, had tragically lost his life in an accident related to the H-Town Throwdown drag race. Emergency crews from various departments gathered to pay their respects and mourn McCoy's passing. Described as a Harley-riding, hardworking, and kind-hearted individual, McCoy left behind his wife of 41 years, Terryl, and their two children, Erik and Whitney. A GoFundMe campaign was created in memory of McCoy and the two other individuals who lost their lives in the accidents, raising over $22,000.
